General knowledge of packaging materials and printing technology

2019-12-03

Packaging and printing are important means and ways to increase product added value and enhance product competitiveness. Usually, you will always see a variety of exquisite packaging boxes. Don't underestimate them. In fact, each has its own characteristics, differences and uses, and different packaging materials will have different printing processes.

Single powder (single-sided coated paper)

1. Common carton materials, paper thickness from 80g to 400g, and higher thickness requires two sheets to be mounted.

2. The paper is bright on one side and matte on the other. Only the glossy side can be printed.

3. No restrictions on printing colors.

Double copper

1. Common carton materials, paper thickness from 80g to 400g, and higher thickness requires two sheets to be mounted.

2. Both sides are glossy and can be printed on both sides.

3. The biggest difference from single powder paper is that it can be printed on both sides.

corrugated paper

1.Single corrugated paper and double corrugated paper are commonly used

2. Light weight, good structural performance, strong load-bearing capacity, and moisture resistance.

3. Able to achieve various colors of printing, but the effect is not as good as single powder and double copper.

cardboard

1.Commonly used to make gift box structure, the surface is mounted with a layer of single powder paper or special paper.

2. The commonly used colors are black, white, gray, and yellow, and the thickness is selected according to the load bearing needs.

3. If the single powder is mounted, the printing process is the same as the single powder; if it is a special paper, most of them can only be hot stamped, and some can be simple printed.

Special paper

1. There are many kinds of special papers, and the commonly used packaging materials are: embossed paper, pattern paper, gold and silver foil paper, etc.

2. These papers are specially treated to improve the texture and grade of the packaging.

3. Neither embossed paper nor pattern paper can be printed, and gold paper can be printed in four colors.

Compound bag

1. Composite bags are suitable for vacuum packaging or general packaging of food, tea, electronic products, chemical, pharmaceutical and other products.

2. The process that can be done is basically the same as paper, which can be screen printed, printed, and hot stamped.

Blister

1. Blister is a transparent material, the main raw material is PVC, PE or PET.

2. The paper can be replaced directly to make a box, or it can be formed with a paper card.

3. It can be silk screened, printed or hot stamped.

4. It can be printed on the machine, but the printed product is higher, and small-volume production is generally only screen printing.

OPP bag

1. OPP bag is stretch polypropylene, which is a kind of plastic, in fact, it is a plastic bag.

2. Before packing the outer box, put an OPP bag in the product, which looks clean and hygienic.

3. It has the characteristics of high transparency and brittleness, and can also print various patterns and punch holes as required.

Heat shrinkable bag

1. This is a kind of strong shrinkable bag that reaches a certain temperature to protect the packaging.

2. It is only used to protect the packaging and not to do other processes.

Printing process commonly used in packaging materials

Four-color printing

The four colors are: cyan (C), magenta (M), yellow (Y), and black (K). All colors can be mixed by these four inks to achieve color graphics.

Spot color printing

Spot color refers to the use of a specific ink to print this color during printing. There are many spot color colors. Special gold and silver are commonly used. You can refer to the Pantone color card.

Film

After printing, there are two types of light film and sub film applied to the printed surface with transparent plastic film, which protects and increases the gloss, and can increase the hardness and tensile properties of the paper.

UV printing

The printed parts need to be partially glazed and brightened to make the local pattern more three-dimensional.

Hot stamping

Hot stamping uses the principle of hot pressing to form a special metallic gloss effect on the surface of printed matter. Hot stamping can only be monochrome.

Bump

A set of concave and convex stencils and convex templates corresponding to yin and yang of the text are used, and the substrate is placed in between, and the relief-like relief effect is pressed out by applying pressure. Papers of all thicknesses are acceptable, but cardboard cannot be bumped.

Coding

Use the printer to print the logo (production date, shelf life, batch number, corporate logo, etc.) on the product, which can print simple character patterns and has strong flexibility.
